PROJECT FEATURES

CGW Mitigation Bank is located along the western shore of the Indian River Lagoon, north of Vero Beach in Indian River County. The bank site is 150 acres and the implementation of the bank will involve hydrologic enhancement, salt marsh restoration, and exotic vegetation eradication.

Habitats present on the site include impounded salt marshes, mangroves, and coastal (hydric) oak hammocks.

CGWMB RESTORATION AND ENHANCEMENT PLAN

Restoration and enhancement of CGWMB includes 1. Recording a conservation easement deeded to the Indian River County Mosquito control District, 2. Excavation of interior dikes and filling adjacent ditches, 3. Install culverts to improve hydrologic connection to the Lagoon, 4. Removal of Brazilian Pepper to restore natural habitat, and 5. Excavation/restoration of tidal creeks, runnels, and ponds.

CGWMB's restoration and enhancement activities improve high salt marsh habitat that is expected to be utilized by various wildlife. The project will also provide improved resource exchange with the Lagoon.

Bank credits are available to offset estuarine, saltwater, and related habitats associated with projects in the Central Indian River Lagoon (SJRWMD Basin 22).
